I would get a tattoo of my cat, Beep, on the outside of my upper right arm. Why a tattoo of my cat? Because he's been a constant companion for the last 11 years. He greets me when I come home and sleeps with me each night. Whenever I'm sick or had a bad day he's right beside me purring away trying to make it better. The ex-roommate's boyfriend that I hated, he clawed the guy. If I were a witch he'd be my familiar.

Since he's been a lucky guy, Beep's survived a rattlesnake bite and weeks missing in the heat of Texas's summer, I'd want a picture of his face surrounded by a horseshoe. I can picture him wearing a bandanna or bow tie with a little dead rabbit head in the center (he once caught and ate a rabbit while on a cat lead). There would be flowers, since when he gets outside the first thing he does is stop to smell the flowers. Or something like that.

I know it sounds a bit crazy, but I can't think of a better way to commemorate my furry munchkin than to get a tattoo of him so that when he's gone one day I can look down and remember his goofy face.

Aww that's sweet Melissa!

Ok people, what else have you got?

I have many ideas for tattoo ...
I love to do a tribute to my family, but without putting any letters
only with pictures any more, and are in harmony ...
My grandfather worked in an office, my grandmother was a seamstress, my father
butcher, my mom loves to knit, and my brother is a mechanic ...
It would be great together in a single drawing symbols that represent them.
The place of my body, maybe it would be for the side on the ribs, or
The back ...
I imagine it full of colors, very feminine details, it would be fabulous!

Wow what a cool and generous contest!

I know you just visited my fair city of Portland.. I would love a Portland themed tattoo. Some Portland icons I love: bicycles, coffee, the beautiful mountains, the rain and umbrellas, roses, nature, tree stumps, beer, birds, squirrels :).

Size and placement would probably depend on the tattoo, really. I just got my first tattoo on my forearm so I have a lot of options!

Even if you don't pick my idea I'm excited to see what you do. Thanks!

I have always wanted to be a mermaid when I grew up. I love water, love to swim and teach swimming. So my tattoo would be a mermaid sitting on a rock, embroidering or sewing while teaching the young mermaid how to swim in the most efficient manner possible-how to use your tail to swim and get the attention of the sailors and boats that pass by! I would love that-

I would get a tatoo of a clothes line in my forearm. This clothes line would be in a state of neglected and invaded by a brightly coloured vegetation.
A multitude of flowers, tall grasses and little birds would gravite around an old suspended docker.

"Time and tie wait for no man" :)

wow! this would be amazing to win!
My dream would be for you to design for me either a deer in an ornate frame with loads of mushrooms to go on my thigh, or an umbrella to go on my shin.

I'm waiting a tattoo by you since a long time... This contest gives me the opportunity of talking about my Sugar skull arm porject. I'll begin it this summer. The idea is to have sugar skull tattooed only by women tattoo artists i appreciate. The interpretation is totally open and the size is around 10x10cm . It will be a kind of collection , no, it will be a collection. The place will be my right arm above my Frida/Santa Muerte tattoo. So you now that i'll contact you soon for this project ;))

What an amazing prize! I absolutely love your work.

I'd like a swan on my shoulder surrounded by pretty flowers, and lettering saying "From sneers to splendour". I had a swan pin years ago with this phrase, which I loved. It must have broken and fell off while I was wearing it and was lost. The phrase is a reference to the Ugly Duckling fable. I never fit in growing up, and it took me until my late twenties to realise that it's a good thing to be unique!

I am probably going to be cheeky and enter more than once because I've been dreaming up tattoo ideas I'd get from you for ages!

I'd love crafty pin up girl, in a cute 50s dress, with giant spools of thread, scissors and needles. I'd love this piece on my outer upper arm.

Next concept... remember your post about your bobble headed vintage ceramic cat, and how you'd love to tattoo it? I collect ceramic cats too... I'd love to have a tattoo of one. On the back of my arm, and about hand sized I think. xx

Hi Sunny- I love your work. I would love you to do a tattoo for me, and some day would plan to meet you in person perhaps to complete it. All compliments aside, I'd really like a tattoo done to commemorate my relationship with my Grandpa. He was a Sea Bee in WW2, and crossed the international dateline, receiving a really cool certificate surrounded with old illustrations of the sea and dragons. I'd really like you to draw a tattoo for me of a bee holding a machine gun, smoking a cigar and looking tough. i think it would be nice if there were some flowers to ground the image, perhaps some pansies or poppies, and a banner below it which would read "CONSIDER THE END", which is my family motto. my Grandpa was also shot in WW2, and kept the bullet by all accounts, and as a symbol of a survivor i think it would be need if there was a small bullet coming out of the poppies pointing towards the bee. I'd like the placement to be above my right elbow, and maybe the sizing to fall around the size of my hand. Thanks and I love you and your work!

my children are half brazilian so my dream tattoo idea is a 'nossa senhora' tattoo (patron saint of brazil) with lots of flowers around her, like little offerings (my daughters love to pick flowers wherever they go) and their names in the design somewhere. i'd like it on my right upper arm. thanks for a great competition!

This is an awesome contest! I'd love to have a custom tattoo combining lace (I'm learning lace making now), a dressform for sewing, threads, yarn, and other crafty bits. Probably something related to tea, too. I'm thinking the lace would sort of swirl around all of the pieces, bringing them together. I'd want it uber-feminine in a 50's sort of way and very colorful. As for the placement, I can never decide. This has been my main holdup for a new tattoo... I'm thinking placed above my hip on my side, sort of around the love handles and climbing up. Yeah, it's specific and a little hare-brained, but, hey, it's a dream!

Oh wow. This is such a great contest. I don't have any tattoos but your work ALWAYS makes me wish I had one. I've been thinking more and more about it and, though my ideas are still quite vague, I know what I'd want one to include some kind of vintage camera (the Starflash is the favourite in my collection) and 1940s/50s pinup girl but a real sassy one with attitude (which is what I love about your illustrations of women). I also love the look of a strip of negatives Photography is one of my great loves and women photographers are amongst my favourites and, whilst doing research into some early female photographers, I realised there isn't as much written about them as there ought to be!
For size and placement, the front of my thigh and about 4-5 inches tall and no more than 4 inches wide.
-Andi x

Id love a tattoo of a baked pie with a lattice top, (no slices taken out ;) surrounded by a wreath of fruit. The pie would be steaming, and sitting on a doily or plaid tablecloth remnant.

Placement would be the inner bicep, about 4"x4"

:)

Amazing contest! I am itching for a new tattoo and I was amazed by your artwork I found on flickr. My friend just got a super cool crafty/sewing tattoo complete with a spool of thread and needle, & a sweet little embroidery. I am super into arts & crafts, amigurumi crochet, paper crafts, drawing, painting. I would love to have something that incorporates crochet and other arts and crafts. I usually crochet cute little animals, so something with some animals and maybe some flowers would be wonderful! I have a whole shoulder/upper arm to fill up! Keeping my fingers (and crochet needles) crossed!

What a fun contest! I enjoyed reading other people's ideas, I'm fasinated with tattoo designs and the meanings behind them.

I've always wanted a crow tattoo, because they are my favorite bird and something of a good luck charm for me. Whenever I see three crows together, something good happens to me later that day. For a while I wanted a tattoo design of three crows. After thinking about it, and after all the ups and downs I've experienced, I decided to get just one crow with the phrase "Create your own luck" as a way to remind me that life is all about perspective and truly strong, creative people choose to see the good in all things in life, up or down.

I think that you would be perfect to design this tattoo because I love the way you draw animals for tattoos, especially their faces. I've been wary of other crow designs because their faces seem too dark and scary or too cartoonish and cutesy. Your style adds the right amount of representation and whimsical nature to each animal you draw (I'm http://www.flickr.com/jilleatsapples on flickr, I'm always commenting on your stuff haha). I would like the crow to be in the perched position, wings at the side, looking off to the side (crows are very aloof creatures, don't you think?) Underneath the crow I'd like a banner in a curly flourish style that says "Create your own luck" in your curly cursive style. Around the banner I'd like a few roses or cherry blossoms (whichever flower you think suites the design, I love both) and some floating petals.

The size would be about 6" tall and 5" wide, and I'd be placing it on my lower back on the left side towards my hip (although I'm also partial to my thigh, I was wondering where you think it would fit best).

Thanks :)

What an oportunity! As I only got tattooed by you once in berlin this would be the best reason for a trip to paris.
As I always wanted to celebrate my love for classic murder and mystery stories, I would love to have a Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot tribute tattoo. I am thinking of Poirot as a fat cat with moustache with a perfect fitting suit looking clever while working with his "little grey cells".
In my fantasy Miss Marple could be represented by a bird, with granny hat and pearls, sitting on a huge loupe.
I would love to have the tattoo on my right calf. The size of 15 x 10 cm would be nice.

You have a great idea Kristina, but the contest is kinda with the idea that someone else would tattoo you. It's not a contest for a free tattoo but a free tattoo drawing. I will still consider your idea, but it wouldn't make the tattoo much cheaper!

i've always imagined a tattoo a la mano poderosa, except that it would be a ladies gloved hand (no stigmata, please!) the glove would be crochet lace or perhaps embroidered, and perched on the fingertips would be 5 of the most adorable knick knacks you've ever seen floating on cotton candy clouds. a green squirrel, a pink bunny, an orange chipmunk, a blue birdie and a yellow kitty. the size of the hand would be actual (dainty) ladies hand sized so i imagine the total size would be about 9"x7". i think it would make a nice tattoo on the back/shoulder.

another idea which I would love is a lace old umbrella with a banner saying "be the sunshine though the rain" to go on my calf with rain and flowers.

Love your work! My dream tattoo would be something coal mining related, but feminine.

I´m about to recive my degree in Architecture in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
And since I´ve always told myself that I would get me a tattoo when I get my diploma I´ll try to make this count.

I would like a design that goes from from my shoulder, circling to my inner bicep, with classic architectural themes like Bauhaus and it`s geometry challenging ideas, Le Corbusier and his glasses and so...Maybe something from the latin american modernist like Oscar Niemayer and the BKF chair

I would like to have a caterpillar. A green, fluffy caterpillar. And a big, beautiful, girly butterfly - the caterpillar would be looking up to the butterfly feeling a bit jealous of its beauty. He just doesn't know yet he is to become one.
