Venice Part 3 Inspirational Photos

Every time I travel I can't help from seeing ideas and inspiration everywhere for my work. Venice wasn't any different. Since I've been loving religious tattoos a lot lately I saw in the skulptures and altars a lot of tattoo ideas. I'm going to get around to sketching from my photos pretty soon and I'll let you see where it leads me.

Venice Part 2 Canals and Bridges

I had left my camera at home. All these photos were taken with the Panasonic of my belle mere. Pretty good I think, especially the twilight and nighttime settings.

I Was in Venice

An enormous anchor made me very happy. Plus no cars for three days! A town where everyone gets around by foot or boat. I saw kids get picked up after school in small motor boats.
I visited the Peggy Gugenhiem museum which is in her former home. She was so glamorous! Great photos on exhibit of her in the house or sunbathing on the terrace where you see me. In her bedroom she had all her earrings hung on the walls and a beautiful silver wire skulpture over the bed by Calder.








I loved Venice, I'm glad I finally made it there. It is so crazy that they built that town on the water and that it may disappear one day. It's very touristic but you can get away in the little streets away from the Square St Marc to enjoy some peaceful moments. Venice is a floating jewel.

Sorry to be away from the blog. I've got so much drawing to do and it's not advancing very quickly. Here's a photo from our recent trip to Venice Italy. I've got more photos from that trip and tattoo drawings to share very soon.

Villa Domergue in Cannes

So I finally got to visit the Domergue villa in Cannes. It was open for the 50th anniversary of his death. He died the same year as Marilyn! It was so amazing. The exhibit inside the house was a series of paintings he did inspired by Venice. Since I'm going to Venice soon, it was very inspirational. Domergue and his wife, an artist as well (sculpture) built the villa. They are buried on the grounds in a strange little grotto. His wife worked out a deal with the town of Cannes to donate the property if they could be buried there. Domergue had the idea to create the Cannes film festival and the judges still meet at the villa every year.

Hauts de Cagnes sur Mer Part 1

Some photos from a recent trip to Cagnes sur Mer, Haut de Cagnes to be specific. An ancient little village in the montains above the Mediterrean Sea. Many artists have painted views of this town. As you are walking around there are panels installed to show the artist's rendition of what you see. Very sweet town, I found out about it from a magazine I was looking at while we were in Japan!

Vintage Fashion Illustration Japanese

I found this book about a woman fashion illustrator from Japan. I wish I could tell you more about her but it's all in Japanese! From what I see she was sometimes modeling herself and most of these fashions seem to date from the 1930's. I'm pretty sure I spied a photo of her old, head shaved like she became a nun! Anyhow a little mystery is always fun. Please enjoy the lovely images.

Japanese Vintage Fashion

I found these magazines at an antique store in Shimokitazawa. A clothing catalog and a kntting book. These prints are so fantastic and the kids adorable! I can't help but imagine adult versions. Why do I always want to dress in children's clothes!?

Oh how I wish I had the outfit below! I don't knit. I made a decision never to start because I already do so much with my hands, but I do sometimes wish it were a possibility.

I love the image below as it seems to be a link between traditonal clothing and occidental influence.
